Welcome to Wednesday. Safe moves are officially off the table.

A lot of women are taught to mistake participation for power.

Being invited into the room.
Being included in the conversation.
Being allowed to contribute.
Being present at the table.

And yes, participation can matter.

But participation alone does not guarantee leverage.

You can be included…

And still not influence the decision.
Still not control resources.
Still not shape the outcome.
Still not benefit proportionally from the value you create.

That distinction matters more than many women realize.

Why this matters right now

A lot of ambitious women focus heavily on access.

Getting the meeting.
Joining the network.
Being considered.
Being included.

But once they get there, many unconsciously shift into proving they belong instead of increasing their leverage.

So they:

  • over-contribute

  • over-prepare

  • over-function

  • over-accommodate

Meanwhile, someone else is:

  • setting the terms

  • controlling the resources

  • making the final decisions

Participation without influence can create the illusion of progress.

Especially for women who have historically been excluded.

But access alone is not the goal.

Power is.

Today’s Move

Identify one room, relationship, or opportunity where you currently have participation…

…but not meaningful leverage.

Then ask yourself:

  • Who actually controls the decision?

  • Who benefits most from the outcome?

  • Who sets the terms?

  • What would increase my influence here?

Then make one move toward leverage instead of visibility alone.

Examples:

  • ask a clearer question

  • negotiate ownership

  • position yourself closer to decision-making

  • stop over-performing for validation

  • create something you control directly

  • strengthen relationships that compound influence

Visibility matters.

But leverage matters more.

Proof it works

A lot of women spend years trying to gain access to spaces that were never designed to distribute power evenly.

So when inclusion finally happens, it can feel like success by itself.

But participation is often where the real negotiation begins.

Because systems are very comfortable allowing women to contribute.

They become much less comfortable when women begin:

  • setting standards

  • controlling resources

  • influencing outcomes

  • changing the terms

That’s the difference between being present…

And being powerful.

Brazen Boost

Participation can make you feel chosen.

Power changes what happens next.

Brazen Law reinforced: Access without leverage creates dependency, not authority.

A question to sit with today:

Where have you mistaken inclusion for influence?

That’s today’s move. Stop confusing access with power.

And in real life.

Our next Trailblazers: The Women-Biased Intentional Networking Hike is happening this Saturday, May 30th.

If you’re ready to build relationships that create real opportunity and leverage, come join us.

P.S. - If you’re ready to stop over-performing for validation and start building actual leverage, the BrazenEra Business Club is where we practice these shifts in real time.

One more thing:

I’ve been hearing from readers who are:

  • raising prices

  • making cleaner asks

  • thinking bigger

  • moving faster

That’s the point.

If one of these Power Letters has changed the way you move, I’d genuinely love to hear about it.
